Pakistan batter Fawad Alam has decided to retire from Pakistan cricket after playing for 15 years for his national side. He made this decision to play in the Minor League Cricket T20 tournament, which takes place in the United States of America. He is set to play for Chicago Kingsmen in the T20 tournament. As he has shifted to the USA, he has the opportunity to play in the Major League Cricket going forward.

Alam is not the first Pakistani player to do this as many other players have moved to the USA, including Sami Aslam, Hammad Azam, Mohammad Mohsin, and Saif Badar, who have moved to the USA in the past in search of better opportunities.

Minor League Cricket T20 to start on August 5

Alam started playing international cricket against Sri Lanka in May 2007 in Abu Dhabi in the ODIs. The middle-order batter made his debut in the shortest format of the game against Kenya in Nairobi on September 4, 2007. He made his Test debut against Sri Lanka at the P Sara Oval in Colombo in July. He played 19 Tests for Pakistan where he scored 1011 runs at an average of 38.88, which included five centuries and two half-centuries.

In the ODIs, he has played 38 matches for the Men in Green where he has scored 966 runs at an average of 40.25 with the help of a century and six half-centuries. The 37-year-old has a got a lot of opportunities in the T20Is but was not able to score many runs. He scored only 194 runs at a strike rate of 114.79.

If we talk about Minor League Cricket, Alam’s team Chicago Kingsmen is a part of the Central Division, which also includes their arch-rivals, Chicago Tigers. The 2023 edition of the T20 tournament will start on August 5, where a total of matches will be played in a span of seven weeks. The tournament will have a total of teams and the matches will be played across 17 venues. 19 matches will be played at Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas.
