‘Finally a Test hundred’ – Fans heap praise on Shubman Gill as he notche his maiden Test hundred against Bangladesh
In the ongoing Day Three of the first Test between Bangladesh and India, Shubman Gill is making the most of the second chance. Early in the day, the KL Rahul-led side decided to bat despite the lead of 251 runs. It was understood that the Indian batters want to get some runs under their belt. While Rahul wasted his opportunity after getting 23, Gill has ensured he makes the most.
Notably, he started slowly in the beginning as he scored 20 runs in 43 balls with no boundary. After all, he was looking not to repeat the mistake from the first innings. Such was his discipline that he didn’t try any fancy shot during the innings. He hit his first four in the 16th over, albeit of an outside edge trying to chase a wide delivery. After this, he increased his boundaries on quite a few occasions.
After the fall of Rahul’s wicket, Gill decided to keep the scoreboard moving not just with boundaries but with singles too. Meanwhile, during his innings, Yasir Ali came to bowl in the 32nd and almost trapped Gill for lbw. However, the umpires gave it not out and the DRS was down which is why the decision couldn’t be overturned. However, this 2018 U19 World Cup winner continued the way he was playing.
Before going into the Tea break, he reached 80 runs, 20 short of his maiden Test hundred. Notably, he missed out during the iconic Gabba Test in early 2021. Meanwhile, he didn’t look in rush to complete his century as he was milking singles and doubles. In the 48th over of the innings, he finally bought up his maiden Test hundred with two boundaries against Mehidy Hasan Miraj.

Now imagine, Shubman Gill may have to sit out of the next Test after scoring this century, if and when Rohit Sharma returns.

Happens to be the first Test 100 by an Indian opener this year. And probably the first of many more to come in @ShubmanGill 's Test career #IndvsBan
