Sunrisers Hyderabad finally registered a victory against Delhi Capitals for the first time after 2020, as they defeated them by 9 runs in match number 40 of the Indian Premier League 2023 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Batting first, SRH posted a total of 197 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. In reply, DC could only score 188 runs losing 6 wickets in their 20 overs.

Abhishek Sharma took charge for SRH with wickets falling regularly from the other end. He got out after scoring 67 runs off 36 balls hitting 12 fours and a maximum. After that, Heinrich Klaasen and Abdul Samad put up a partnership of 53 runs for the sixth wicket. Samad got out after scoring 28 runs off 21 balls with one four and two sixes. While Klaasen remained unbeaten on 53 runs off 27 balls with two fours and four sixes.

Akeal Hosein also added the finishing touches as SRH crosses 190 runs. For DC, Mitchell Marsh took 4 wickets by conceding 27 runs in his four overs, while Ishant Sharma and Axar Patel shared a wicket each.

Mitchell Marsh and Phil Salt’s century partnership couldn’t DC down the line

Chasing the winning total, DC lost their skipper David Warner for a duck in the very first over. After that, Phil Salt and Mitchell Marsh took charge of the innings by putting up a partnership of 112 runs for the second wicket. Salt got out after scoring 59 runs off 39 balls with nine boundaries.

An over later, Marsh also lost his wicket after scoring 63 runs off 39 balls hitting one four and six sixes. After that, DC started losing wickets at regular intervals. Axar Patel tried to take his team down the line as he remained unbeaten on 29 runs off 14 balls but it wasn’t enough as DC fell short of SRH’s total by 9 runs. Mayank Markhande took 2 wickets for SRH by conceding 20 runs in his four overs. While, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T. Natarajan, Abhishek Sharma, and Akeal Hosein shared a wicket each.
