Five Reasons For Football’s Demise In India
Bad infrastructure
Football in India does not receive the same level of respect as it does in other countries. The infrastructure around football is of very poor quality in the country.
Take an example of FC Bengaluru, a big team that plays in the biggest Indian football league called the Indian Super League (ISL). FC Bengaluru has to share their home ground, the Kanteerava Stadium with track and field teams.
Many clubs in the country do not have a proper ground to play in. In what came as a shocking joke to the sport, the Indian government allocated a budget of Rs 5 Crore to the Indian football federation. Sports like Yachting and Equestrian get Rs 6 crore, while Athletics and Badminton get 30 and 24 crore respectively.
Ishan Kishan, the Indian batter got Rs 15 Crores for one Indian T20 League season. Football’s budget is not even half of that.
