Former India cricketer gives mouth shutting reply to PCB’s ‘pull out of World Cup’ warning
Recently, Jay Shah announced that the Asia Cup 2023 might be moved to a neutral venue. Notably, the tournament is set to be played in Pakistan next year. In reply, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has called for an emergency meeting in Melbourne during the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022. It was recently reported that they are mulling to pull out of the 2023 ODI World Cup.
The thought was sparked in reply to India’s decision of not traveling to Pakistan. Notably, the ODI World Cup will be played in India in around October-November next year. In the midst of all this, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has claimed that the next year’s continental tournament won’t be played if India doesn’t participate at all. He also feels that if Pakistan doesn’t play the ODI World Cup, they would have to let a huge chunk of money.
“Asia Cup might not happen at all if India don’t participate, there’s no chance. The Asia Cup is a minor tournament compared to the world cup. Skipping the World Cup means you will end up forgoing a massive amount of revenue that ICC shares (with the participating nations). It’s a case of who blinks first. So I’m not taking this seriously. I feel the Asia Cup 2023 will be held and at a neutral venue,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
India doesn’t take a single penny from the Asian Cricket Council: Aakash Chopra
The cricketer-turned-commentator revealed that the Indian Cricket Board doesn’t take a single penny from the ACC profits. Chopra, in fact states that the board distributes its profits from the Asia Cups to other boards.
“Of course, ACC is a consortium. But few are aware of the fact that India doesn’t take a penny from ACC. Everybody takes a certain amount from the (ACC) coffer whether 4 million or 8 million but India ends up distributing their amount instead,” Chopra said. “India has been playing the role of a big brother in ACC. If it has been said that the team might not travel to Pakistan, then I can give you this in writing that India won’t. The Asia Cup will also be held at a neutral venue. And Pakistan will also definitely come to play in the World Cup (in India)… Take all this from in writing. All these things are guaranteed,” he added.
