Glenn Maxwell reveals last tournament he would likely play before retiring
Glenn Maxwell has revealed about the last tournament he would likely play before retiring. The Australia star batter recently returned to Australia after having a long season in India which started from September and ended in December. Maxwell was a part of the ODI series and T20I series against India. The aggressive batter played a key role in the team’s campaign in the ODI World Cup 2023.
The year has been fantastic for Maxwell. In the IPL 2023, Maxwell scored over 400 runs in 14 innings at a strike rate of whopping 183 as a middle order batter. Most of his innings came while saving the side from collapses. He then could not take part in the series against South Africa due to the injury and returned to cricket for the third ODI against India in Rajkot.
In the ODI World Cup 2023, Maxwell had an insane run. Against Netherlands, Maxwell scored the fastest hundred for a batter in the history of the tournament. Against Afghanistan, Maxwell played an all-time great ODI innings, as he scored an unbeaten 201, which helped Australia to chase 292 runs after being reduced to 91/7 at one stage. Maxwell was useful as a bowler in the tournament.

The right-arm off-spinner claimed the important wicket of Rohit Sharma in the final and hit the winning runs. It was a near perfect campaign for him and he capped it off with a brilliant match winning innings in the third T20I against India to return home. There is no break for the star batter, as he will take part in the BBL 2023/24 to represent Melbourne Stars in the league.
When asked about his schedule and the experience of playing in the IPL, Maxwell said “The IPL will probably be the last tournament I ever play, as I will play the IPL until I can’t walk anymore. You’re rubbing shoulders with AB (de Villiers) and Virat (Kohli) for two months, talking to them while watching other games. It’s just the greatest learning experience that any player could ask for.”
