Harmanpreet Kaur likely to face two-match ban due to her outburst during third ODI against Bangladesh Women
During the third and final ODI of the recently-concluded bilateral series between India Women and Bangladesh Women, India was bowled out for 225 in 49.3 overs during their chase. The three-match ODI series between the two sides ended at 1-1. India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur criticised the umpires for their questionable decisions not only during the game but also in the post-match presentation.
After this offence, Harmanpreet is set to face strict actions from Apex Cricket Council for her conduct against the umpire which could be a ban for the next two international matches. She was furious at umpire Tanvir Ahmed’s decision on her dismissal during India’s chase where she hit the stumps and argued with the umpire before going back to the pavilion. After the match, in the post-match presentation, she questioned the standard of umpiring n the match, calling it “pathetic”.
We’ll have to prepare ourselves: Harmanpreet Kaur
“Some pathetic umpiring was done and we are really disappointed about some decisions given by the umpires. A lot of learning from this game. Even apart from the cricket, the type of umpiring that was happening there, we were very surprised. The next time whenever we are coming to Bangladesh, we’ll have to make sure we have to deal with this kind of umpiring and accordingly, we’ll have to prepare ourselves,” Harmanpreet was quoted as saying at the post-match presentation.
According to reports in Cricbuzz, the Women in Blue skipper will be guilty of four offences out of which three are for damaging the stumps and one is for publicly criticizing a match official. According to the rules of the Cricket Governing Body, if a player accumulates four or more demerit points in a period of 24 months, it would directly lead to suspension from one Test or two ODIs or two T20Is, whichever appears next on the schedule.
The Asian Games 2023 at Hangzhou, China will host India’s next international which will take place from September 23 to October 8. India have directly qualified for the Quarterfinals based on India’s ranking in ODIs. So if Harmanpreet misses the next two matches it would be a major setback for the Indian Cricket Team.
