‘He can easily surpass Virat Kohli’ – Former Pakistan skipper draws comparisons between Virat Kohli and Babar Azam
Former Pakistan skipper, Imran Khan has once again drawn comparisons between Babar Azam and Virat Kohli. From the time when Babar Azam made his international debut, Pakistani fans, and former cricketers have acknowledged that he has the capability of breaking all the records set by the former India skipper.
Recently, in an interview, the 70-year-old went one step forward and asserted that Babar can easily surpass Kohli. Kohli stood out himself by amassing 25,385 runs in 498 international games, including 75 centuries. While on the other hand, Babar, has amassed 12,270 runs in 251 games so far, including 30 hundreds.
Babar Azam receives ODI Cricketer of the Year and Cricketer of the Year trophies
“I haven’t recently seen cricket, but I believe that Virat Kohli and Babar Azam belong to the same class. Babar Azam can easily surpass Virat Kohli. He is that good, from what I have seen,” Khan was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan. Babar recently left behind the 34-year-old and became the fastest batter to complete 5000 runs in ODIs.
The 28-year-old achieved this feat in 97 innings and left behind the former India skipper who had achieved it in 114 innings. By achieving this feat, he surpassed some other legendary players as well which included the likes of Hashim Amla (101) and Vivian Richards (114). He also equalled Kohli’s record for becoming the fastest batter to complete 3,000 runs in T20Is, reaching in just 81 innings.
Babar is far behind than Kohli in ODIs and Tests, but in T20Is he is just 523 runs behind him (4,008) to become the batter with the most number of runs in T20Is. In 2022, the 28-year-old has also broke Kohli’s record for most of the days spent as the no. 1 T20I batter (1013) and set a new record for 1155 days. Babar’s career has been growing rapidly, and in 2022 he won the prestigious ODI Cricketer of the Year and Cricketer of the Year trophies. If he is able to maintain his form in the future series, it will be exciting for viewers to watch him.
