‘I told him that I played World Cup while battling cancer’ – Yuvraj Singh positive of Shubman Gill’s recovery ahead of India-Pakistan World Cup clash

India’s former attacking batsman Yuvraj Singh recently gave exclusive details about his conversation with the opening batsman Shubman Gill. Gill has been down with heavy dengue fever since the commencement of the ODI World Cup 2023 and has already missed two big matches in the tournament, against Australia and Afghanistan on 8th and 12th October respectively. 

Yuvraj Singh shared his struggle during the ODI World Cup 2011 since he was suffering from cancer with Shubman and still went on to play the whole tournament and became the player of the tournament as well. He deeply motivated Shubman Gill to perform in the team’s upcoming match against archrivals Pakistan on 14th October. The former India batter shared how he also overcame challenges when he was diagnosed with cancer to motivate India’s star batter Shubman Gill.

Yuvraj Singh mentioned how he understands that playing a game while suffering from dengue is difficult, hence he motivated Shubman Gill and said, “Shubham Gill ko maine tagda kar diya hai [I have strengthened Shubham Gill]. I told him that I had played in the World Cup while battling cancer, so I got ready quickly to join the team. Hopefully, he will be ready for the India vs Pakistan game. When you have a fever and dengue, it is really tough to play a cricket match, and I have experienced that. So I hope that if he is fit, then he will definitely play. This time will not come back, so enjoy it. Not just this match, there are more matches after this. Hopefully, it will be a good match.”

“India is already confident because they have beaten Australia and Afghanistan. It was a brilliant hundred from Rohit Sharma. I think at the moment both teams are high on confidence, and it should be a cracker of a game. Mohammad Rizwan is in great forr Both teams have outstanding games. Especially for Pakistan, they chased 300-plus runs against Sri Lanka, so it will give them a lot of confidence,” added Yuvraj Singh.
