‘I was always preparing…’ – Jasprit Bumrah opens up on playing ODI World Cup 2023
The Indian cricket team’s lethal fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has finally made his comeback after a long break of multiple injuries and recoveries. Being a crucial part of the Indian squad, Jasprit Bumrah’s absence has forever been felt in the pace squad as the board could not find his appropriate match as his replacement.
After being fully fit, Bumrah is now prepared to make up for all the games he has missed. There could not be better news for the Indian fans, since their ace bowler is back in the squad ahead of major Continental (Asia Cup) and world championships (ODI World Cup 2023). Before the tournaments, Bumrah will be leading the squad for a mini T20I series in Ireland.
Ahead of India’s tour of Ireland, Jasprit Bumrah talked about how he has been practicing in the nets and against a domestic team to prepare well against the opponents for not just the T20 format but also for the One-Days. The Ireland tour will be a good opportunity for the Indian cricket board to determine Bumrah’s selection for the upcoming tournaments. India’s former batsman Wasim Jaffer recently shared a meme on his social media account ahead of Bumrah’s much awaited comeback in the Indian cricket team as the captain of the Indian scored ahead of their tour in Ireland.
Jasprit Bumrah spoke at length on his much awaited comeback
“At times, when the injury takes time to fully heal it can get frustrating. But instead of having self-doubts that maybe I won’t recover, I was only thinking about how to get better and how quickly I can get back to the field,” said Bumrah. “I’ve done a lot of net sessions. When my rehabilitation ended, I went home too and even practiced with the Gujarat team. So it’s not like I am bowling with a restriction,” added Bumrah.
“In my rehabilitation as well, I was never preparing for a T20 game, I was always preparing for a World Cup competition… so I have been bowling 10, 12.. even 15 overs. I have bowled more overs so it becomes easier to bowl less than what is required. I am not holding back, the body feels good and I’m looking forward to the games coming up,” concluded Bumrah ahead of India’s first T20I match against Ireland.
