India vs Bangladesh: Taskin Ahmed ruled out of first ODI, Tamim Iqbal in doubt
The three-match ODI series between India and Bangladesh is set to begin on December 4. Bangladesh will host the series and the first match will be played in Mirpur. The hosts got a big shock before the series starts as their premium pacer Taskin Ahmed will not be featuring in the series opener on Sunday.
The 27-year-old is ruled out due to recurring back pain. Bangladesh cricket Board chief selector Minhazul Abedin said that they will be keeping an eye on his injury and progress. “Taskin is out of the first ODI and we will know about his availability for the rest of the ODI series only after another fitness test,” Abedin told ESPNcricinfo.
Earlier, veteran opener Tamim Iqbal sustained a groin injury during a warm-up game at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on November 30. “Tamim is also in doubt due to a groin injury but we will keep assessing him in the next few days,” Abedin said.
Umran Malik replaces Mohammed Shami for the Bangladesh tour
Indian team on Saturday dealt a huge blow as veteran pacer Mohammed Shami was ruled out of the ODI series against the Bangla tigers due to a shoulder injury, Indian cricket Board has named fast bowler Umran Malik as his replacement.
“Fast bowler Mohd. Shami sustained a shoulder injury during a training session in the lead-up to the ODI series against Bangladesh. He is currently under the supervision of the Indian Cricket Board medical team at NCA, Bengaluru, and will not be able to take part in the three-match series.” Indian Cricket Board was quoted as saying.
Shami himself revealed his injury news on social media. “Injury, in general, teaches you to appreciate every moment. I’ve had my share of injuries throughout my career. It’s humbling. It gives you perspective. No matter how many times I’ve been hurt, I’ve learned from that injury and come back even more stronger.” Shami tweeted.
