Suryakumar Yadav has been an integral part of the Mumbai batting lineup. He was one of the four players retained by Mumbai this year.

“SKY” has been the limit for Surya as he has improved his batting abilities significantly. Especially in the last two seasons, there has been a notable improvement in Suryakumar Yadav’s strike rate. This has made the player indispensable for the Mumbai team.

But according to the latest reports, the player might miss the first match for Mumbai against Delhi. The Mumbai team is to begin their campaign for the 2022 season against Delhi on 27th March. Suryakumar may not be a part of this clash, as he is still recovering from an injury.

He sustained a hairline fracture on his thumb during the T20 series against West Indies. This led to him missing the series against Sri Lanka.

A senior BCCI source aware of the latest developments on Suryakumar Yadav told to PCI – “Surya is currently at the NCA doing his rehabilitation. He is well on his way to recovery but there is a possibility that his participation in the opening game will be a real touch and go affair. So there could be a possibility that he might be advised by the board’s medical team to not risk playing the opener.” As a result, Mumbai may also opt to rest the star batsman looking at future aspects.

Mumbai has a gap of five days between their opening clash and the next match. The team is to play Rajasthan in their second match on April 2, which means Yadav will most likely recover before the match and play his part for the team.
