Hyderabad took on Lucknow in the 12th match of the Indian T20 League 2022.
Hyderabad won the toss and going by the convention of the season, Kane Williamson decided to field first. The Hyderabad bowlers started very well picking up 3 Lucknow wickets within the first 5 overs of the innings. It was at this stage that Deepak Hooda came into the crease and joined his skipper KL Rahul in the middle. The duo kept the scoreboard ticking with singles and twos alongside occasional big overs. They put up an 87 runs partnership and took the score to 114 runs when Hooda fell to Romario Shepherd. Hooda scored a brilliant half-century, scoring 51 runs off 33 deliveries. Hyderabad had a steady start to their chase. But the loss of Kane Williamson in the 4th over was a shock they could have done without. Abhishek Sharma soon followed and Hyderabad was 38 for 2 down in the 6th over of the innings. Markram and Tripathi steadied the Hyderabad ship and put together a partnership of 44 runs. Markram (12 off 14) was dismissed at this stage and Tripathi (44 off 30) soon followed. But the duo laid a perfect foundation for the finishers to come and chase down the target. By the end of the 15th over Hyderabad was 120 runs for 5 wickets down. They needed 50 runs of the last 30 balls of the innings. With Nicholas Pooran and Washington Sundar at the crease, the target looked quite achievable. But a brilliant 18th over by Avesh Khand swung the match in Lucknow’s favor. He just conceded 7 runs in the over and picked up two wickets of two consecutive deliveries. One of the wicket was that of well settled Nicholas Pooran (34 off 24 delveries). After this Hyderabad completely lost the plot and ultimately ended up losing the match, second of the tournament in as many games. They finished with a total of 157 runs from their 20 overs, 12 runs short of the Lucknow score.
