Ishan Kishan reveals his father’s heartwarming response after getting maiden Test call-up
Wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan got the maiden Test call for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy next month. He has replaced Rishabh Pant in the side who met with an accident last December. Since then, the latter has been battling with injuries. Meanwhile, during an interaction with Shubman Gill on the Indian Cricket Board’s Twitter handle, Kishan revealed his father’s emotional response after the Test call-up.
The left-hander said that when he told his father about it, the latter was emotional. Ishan added that he was asked to put in more hard work. The former India U19 skipper further said that he always reminded himself of how red-ball cricket is real cricket.
“I broke the news to my family. My father was super pumped, he said ‘aise hi mehnat karna hai, aise hi practice karni hai (Keep working hard like this, keep practising like this),’” Ishan told Gill.
“When I was playing white ball, he used to keep reminding me about how Test cricket is the real cricket, where a batsman faces the real challenges and his skill Tests gets tasted. To play at that level is a big thing. I was very happy when I got the news of my Test call-up and if I will get the chance I will try to perform well for the team,” he said.
A player needs to be sensible while playing red-ball cricket: Ishan Kishan
The Jharkhand player also spoke about how batting is different in white-ball and red-ball cricket. He said that it is important to read the situation and play accordingly instead of playing wildly.
“I think in red ball, I bat at No 6, and situation is a bit different. You need to read the situation and instead of playing a wild shot, one needs to be more sensible. If the ball will be in my arc and fielders will be up, I will go for the boundary.”
