‘It happens in cricket’ – Rinku Singh motivates Yash Dayal after smashing him for five consecutive sixes in last over

Kolkata Knight Riders batter Rinku Singh has been in the mind of every cricket fan after his heroics against Gujarat Titans last night in match number 13 of IPL 2023. The 25-year-old smashed Yash Dayal for five consecutive sixes when KKR required 29 runs off the last over. It was a memorable win and a big achievement for Rinku as he made his team win from the jaws of defeat. And, on the other end, it was a day to forget for the GT bowler Yash Dayal, who got smashed for 31 runs in the last over.
Yash conceded 69 runs in his four overs and ended up delivering the second most expensive spell in the history of IPL. The 25-year-old erred in length in the first three balls against Rinku after the KKR batter was put on strike with a single from Umesh Yadav.
However, Rinku showed a great gesture toward the GT bowler as what he revealed in his latest interview. Rinku said he had texted Yash after the match while trying to motivate him. Both players have shared the dressing room in domestic matches for Uttar Pradesh domestic cricket.
“I texted Yash after the game, saying it happens in cricket, you did really well last year, I just tried to motivate him a little,” Rinku told in an interview with India Today.
Apart from Rinku, the KKR franchise had also shown their support towards Yash as they motivated him to bounce back strongly in the next game.
“Chin up, lad. Just a hard day at the office, happens to the best of players in cricket. You’re a champion, Yash, and you’re gonna come back strong,” KKR had tweeted.
Rashid Khan’s hat trick went in vain
Talking about the match, batting first at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad, GT posted a total of 204 runs for the loss of 4 wickets, powered by the half-centuries by Sai Sudharsan (53 off 38) and Vijay Shankar (63 off 24).
In reply, KKR were in a gettable position after 16 overs with Venkatesh Iyer scoring 83 off 40 balls, supported by the skipper Nitish Rana who got out after scoring 45 off 29 balls. However, GT skipper Rashid Khan put his team back into the game with a hat-trick in the 17th over and the match went down to the last over with 29 runs needed in six balls. After that, Rinku’s heroics bought KKR home as they registered their second consecutive victory by 3 wickets after losing their first match to Punjab Kings.
