‘Itna one-sided El Clasico nahi dekhna tha yaar’ – Fans react to Chennai Super Kings completing an easy 7 wicket win over Mumbai Indians
It was the El Clasico of the Indian Premier League as two of the most successful franchises faced each other today. It’s the clash of the Titans as Mumbai Indians battled it out with Chennai Super Kings at the iconic Wankhede stadium.
Chennai won the toss and opted to bat first on a ground that is known for chasing totals. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan started brightly for the hosts before Tushar Deshpande scalped the wicket of the skipper with a beautiful delivery. Mumbai accumulated a good chunk of runs in the powerplay with the help of quick boundaries.
After the powerplay the twin strikes of Ishan Kishan and the out-of-form Suryakumar Yadav brought the Chennai team back into the game. In the ninth over, Jadeja scalped another one to dismiss the marquee signing Cameron Green. It was up to the youngster Tilak Varma to take the innings forward. Arshad Khan, who got a surprise promotion was caught plumb by Mitchell Santner as Mumbai Indians entered deep waters.
Tim David joined Tilak Varma in the need of a big partnership. They were accumulating a lot of dot balls which was the reason of their low run rate. Tilak Varma then broke the shackles with a huge six in the 13th over but gets out on the very next ball.
Tim David got a few boundaries to push the innings ahead before finding Rahane at the boundary in the 17th over. Hritik Shokeen and Piyush Chawla got a healthy contribution to take the side to an average total of 157/8 in their 20 overs.
Jason Behrandorff got an early wicket for the hosts as he was able to dismiss New Zealand batter Devon Conway for 0. Ajinkya Rahane came out looking sharp and played like that. He looked on-song from the start and grabbed boundaries for fun. Ruturaj Gaikwad at the other end, couldn’t help but be in awe of the shot making.
Rahane completed his fifty off just 19 balls and at an impressive strike rate of 273. Veterans just thrive under MS Dhoni in the Chennai Super Kings and Rahane is another player that’s added to the list. Veteran spinner Piyush Chawla got the much-needed wicket of Rahane as he departed after playing an exhilarating knock of 61 off 27 balls.
Ruturaj Gaikwad played the perfect anchor role as he played around Ambati Rayudu and Shivam Dube who took the innings forward briskly. In the end, Chennai won the game by 7 wickets with 11 balls to spare.
