‘Jai mahakal’ – Fans go berserk as Virat Kohli score his 75th international century, first in Test after three years
After back-to-back failures in the first three matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Virat Kohli finally ended his century in Test cricket as he reached the triple figures in the fourth Test of the series at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He now has 28 centuries in the longest format and 75 centuries across the formats in international cricket.
Kohli last scored a century in the longest format in November 2019 when he scored 136 runs against Bangladesh in the day-night Test in Kolkata. After that, he had to wait for almost three years for his 71st century in international cricket. However, he ended his century drought in the 2022 Asia Cup against Afghanistan when he scored his maiden T20I hundred. He then went on to continue his century-run in the ODIs as well as he reached the triple-figure mark in Bangladesh and two times in a series against India.
This is the first time since January 2022 that Kohli has scored more than 50 runs for India in the red-ball cricket. He also showed great form in Test since then as his average dropped from 52 to 48 during this period. Now that the 34-year-old has finally regained his form, he will be the crucial player for India if they qualify for the Test Championship final.
India crosses 400 runs on day four
Talking about the match, India lost 5 wickets on day four so far as they crossed 400-run mark and getting closer to Australia’s total of 480 runs in the first inning. Shubman Gill was the first centurion of the Indian inning as he got out after scoring 128 runs off 235 balls on day three. The 23-year-old continued his tremendous form in international cricket as he scored his second Test hundred. He added 113 runs with Cheteshwar Pujara who got out after scoring 42 off 121.
Young batter KS Bharat also lost his wicket after getting a good start as he got out after scoring 44 runs off 88 balls hitting two fours and three sixes. He also 84 runs with Kohli for the fifth wicket. Currently Kohli is batting with Axar Patel and taking the Indian inning forward on day four.
