‘Jeet gaye bhai’ – Fans react as India demolish South Africa at Kolkata by 243 runs in ODI World Cup 2023

India dominated the match against South Africa in Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. On a tricky surface to bat on, India overcame South Africa by a huge margin, outplaying them in all the three facets of the game. A collective team effort from India helped them to beat South Africa by 243 runs. Opting to bat first, India scored 326 runs in their 50 overs, which was a huge total.

Rohit Sharma played a brisk innings at the top and took the game away from the proteas. The Indian captain’s start at the top helped other batters assess the conditions well and bat accordingly. In the approach of the Indian batters, it was visible. Virat Kohli played a calculative innings on a slow wicket. The spinners got some huge turn from the surface. It forced the batters to play slowly.

Shreyas Iyer batted well and supported Virat well. the Indian number 4 overcame the challenge of the spinners and helped India to have an upper hand in the middle overs. At the other end, Virat batted deep and allowed others around him to score runs easily. Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja finished well for India. Virat registered his 49th ton in ODIs and created history.

Comprehensive win for India against South Africa

Defending the total, Indian bowlers gave no chance for South Africa. The Indian pacers started the bowling well and put pressure on the South African batters. Jasprit Bumrah bowled an economical spell and let others take wickets. Mohammad Siraj drew the first blood by claiming the wicket of Quinton De Kock. It began the huge collapse of the proteas, which went only down from there.

Mohammed Shami picked wickets for fun. But the star of India’s bowling was Ravindra Jadeja, who was sensational. The left-arm spinner got the ball to spin and wreaked havoc. Kuldeep Yadav assisted Jadeja well towards the end. The experienced campaigner picked his maiden five-wicket haul in the history of the ODI World Cup and became instrumental in India’s huge win against the proteas.
