‘Kamzor dil waale IPL naa dekhein’ – Fans catch their breath as CSK agonizingly lose to Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2023

In the 17th game of the Indian Premier League 2023, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals locked horns in Chennai. Ahead of the game, both teams were coming off a convincing in their respective previous games. Both teams had won two out of their three games before this match. Meanwhile, in this game, the home team, CSK won the toss and elected to bowl first.

On the other hand, RR skipper Sanju Samson was looking to bat first. With the bat, the 2008 winners had a poor start as last game half-centurion, Yashasvi Jaiswal got out in the second over after scoring 10 runs. At 11/1, the likes of Devdutt Padikkal and Jos Buttler got the innings going with a partnership of 77 runs in 7.1 overs. The partnership was broken by Ravindra Jadeja by taking the wicket of Padikkal.

Two balls later, Jadeja castled Samson with beauty to bring a halt to the Royals’ scoring rate. As it turned, the scoring rate halted for a few overs with Ravichandran Ashwin and Buttler not scoring a boundary in the next few overs. The latter scored another fifty while Ashwin hit two sixes in the 15th over to provide some momentum to the innings. With Shimron Hetmyer (30*) playing a cameo, the team reached 175/8.

In reply, the four-time winners got a poor start as in-form batter Ruturaj Gaikwad got out. However, Ajinkya Rahane carried on from where he left off and scored 31 off 19 balls. He and Devon Conway put together 68 runs for the second wicket to keep the team in the game. After the wicket of Rahane, some of the next batters failed to make an impact.

From 78/1, the team was reduced to 113/6 with the spin trio, Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Adam Zampa picking wickets. This led to a massive increase in the required run rate. The likes of skipper MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja tried well in the last three overs. However, they failed to take the team over the line as the team lost the game by three runs. With this, the Jaipur-base side won their first game against CSK in Chennai after 2008.
