Kevin Piertersen heaps praise on Shubhman Gill for scoring brilliant century in 2nd Test against England
Indian batter, Shubman Gill regained his form in Vizag. Shubman struck a tough century on Day 3 of the second Test to help India get out of danger. The batsman broke out of his form slump, scoring his first century since Ahmedabad in 2023.
This was Gill’s maiden hundred at No. 3. Prior to this, Gill had not made a half-century at No. 3 in his past 11 Test innings. Gill was lucky to have survived three close encounters in the morning. There were two LBW calls against the hitter, who was spared by the DRS before a heavy outside edge sailed past Joe Root at first slip.
From then, Shubman Gill improved his game and hit a magnificent century. Gill appeared to be in a punishing mood against the spinners, who had plagued him in the first Test of the series. Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen congratulated Gill on his century and shared a social media message about it.
Pietersen has already expressed confidence in Gill during the first Test match, despite harsh criticism. Pietersen had gone on a rampage against Gill during the Hyderabad Test match, criticising his tactics. Following Shubman’s dual failure in Hyderabad, Pietersen softened his tone and begged everyone to give Gill more time.
Kevin Pieterson compared Shubman Gill with Jack Kallis
“The average does not appear to be healthy, and the figures are unsettling. You do not want to look at them. But there is a reason he is batting third: it is because of the type of player he is and what he is capable of. So I’m not too concerned about the two dismissals. “What I would be concerned about is his performance in the second and third Test matches,” Pietersen stated.
“I don’t think you can get rid of someone in a single Test match. He will surely play in Vizag, and we’ll see how he prepares for the following Test. Let us not dismiss Shubman Gill as unplayable. He can play. When it comes to sentiments, he gives me a sense of pure excitement and delight when he steps out to bat. “I want to see him bat,” Pietersen insisted.
Kevin Pietersen likened Gill to Kallis and predicted that Gill would do well in Vizag. Shubman’s performance helped India recover after losing two early wickets on Sunday. Gill smashed 104 off 147, including 11 boundaries and two sixes.
