On new year’s day, the Indian Cricket Board had a review meeting. In the meeting, they said that the NCA “will work in tandem with the ITL franchises to monitor the targeted Indian players participating in the ITL 2023”. Such drastic steps were taken after Men In Blue had to deal with a spate of injuries last year. Not to forget, the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, etc got injured.

The team missed their services in the 20-20 World Cup 2022 and crashed out in the semis. With the national side set to play the ODI World Cup later this year, the board wants its players to remain available. Also, not to forget, the board is hell-bent on making sure the team wins the title this year. Meanwhile, different Indian T20 League franchise owners are reportedly unhappy with the decision.

Indian Cricket Board can’t direct a franchise to rest a player: Reports

Meanwhile, the franchise owners are reportedly unhappy with the decision. One of them has said that the board cannot direct a franchise to rest a player unless he is fit. The franchise official pointed out the contracts of the players. He added that the teams have physios and masseurs who have worked with the national side.

“The Indian Cricket Board cannot direct a franchise to rest a player unless he is unfit. After all, the players have a contract with the franchises,” a franchise official told The Telegraph on condition of anonymity.

“The franchises also hire physios and masseurs who have worked with national teams earlier and so there’s nothing to panic for the Indian Cricket Board.”

On the other hand, Kolkata franchise CEO, Venky Mysore has denied the reports by saying that they haven’t received a word on workload management.

“There’s nothing official about it. The Indian Cricket Board hasn’t told us anything. It wouldn’t be proper to make a comment on the basis of media reports,” Kolkata franchise chief executive Venky Mysore told the same publication.
