‘Kuch bhi likh rahe hai’ – Fans react as Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul set to lead India in T20Is and ODIs respectively against South Africa
Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are set to lead India in T20Is and ODIs respectively against South Africa. For the first time in more than a year, Rohit is set to play in T20Is. Given the injury of Hardik Pandya, the Indian management and selectors have decided to hand over the captaincy of T20Is to Rohit. Reports claim that Rohit might be asked to lead India in the T20 World Cup as well.
After the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2022, senior players like Rohit, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and others were not picked for the T20 squad. During the period, India tried many youngsters in the playing XI like Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Ishan Kishan, Rinku Singh and others. Many of them have established themselves in the Indian squad by giving consistent performances.
But given the injury of Hardik, India is forced to give the leadership to someone experienced. Rohit seemed to be the perfect fit. Rahul Dravid will be continuing as the Indian head coach till the end of the T20 World Cup 2024. It would make sense for Rohit to be leading India in the shorter format, as the combination of his with Dravid has proven good for the Indian team.
KL Rahul to lead India in ODIs
As Rohit is set to make his comeback in the T20I side, KL Rahul is set to make a comeback as the captain in ODIs. Rahul was the vice-captain of India in the ODI World Cup 2023 after the injury of Hardik. In his absence, Rahul is set to lead India in the ODI series against South Africa. The reports suggest that Rahul might be leading India for a long time in ODIs shortly.
Rahul returned to the Indian side following his long injury. Just before the Asia Cup 2023, both Rahul and Shreyas Iyer became fit and made themselves available for the selections. In the ODI World Cup 2023, both of them played very well till the final. Giving the captaincy to Rahul is not a bad decision.
