Ruturaj Gaikwad will captain India’s men’s team in the forthcoming Asian Games T20 tournament. The 15-man team also includes Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, and Jitesh Sharma, who are all uncapped in T20 internationals. The Indian Cricket Board has picked a second-string men’s team as a result of the men’s ODI World Cup, which begins in India on October 5, two days before the finish of the Asian Games cricket tournament. On the other hand, the women’s squad for the competition in Hangzhou is at full strength.

Only six players from the T20I team for the Caribbean and USA tours have been included in the Asian Games roster: Jaiswal, Tilak, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, and Avesh Khan. Notably, this was the first India call-up for Uttar Pradesh batter Rinku, who had lit up the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) with his power and finishing ability. Jitesh, the Vidarbha and Punjab Kings finisher, also made the team after being left out of the T20I squads in the Caribbean Tour. This is also an occasion for Washington Sundar and his Sunrisers Hyderabad teammate Rahul Tripathi to show off their T20 skills once more.

Rinku Singh’s IPL season

Rinku expressed his delight by sharing KKR’s social media image of him in an India shirt, followed by a ‘target’ emoticon. With his batting efforts for KKR in the Indian Premier League, the batter has made a significant impression. Rinku was the star in the just-finished IPL 2023 season, scoring 474 runs in 14 matches with a strike rate of 149.53. During this time, he also scored four half-centuries.

One of his most notable IPL innings was a remarkable chase against Gujarat Titans (GT) in which he scored 28 runs off just five balls in the last over. Rinku continuously provided strong performances for the Knight Riders throughout the season, cementing his image as a rising star in the cricketing world. It will be fantastic to watch if the UP batter can continue his first-class and IPL performance in the Team India jersey.

  • […] Rinku Singh continued on to express that every cricketer hopes to represent India, and it’s what keeps him motivated across the years. He remarked that he is not highly concerned with the future & just embraces every moment as it comes. “Everyone dreams to play for India, wear that jersey. I don’t think a lot about the future because the more you think, the more burden you put yourself under. I take life as one day at a time. But yes, whoever takes up professional sports wants to represent their country one day or the other,” he added further. […]
