The world’s most renowned Argentina-origin footballer Lionel Messi recently created history as he once again lifted the Ballon d’Or for the eighth time in his football career. The Argentina football team captain won the special award in Paris, France on 30th October, Monday night for showcasing consistent performance in football as he was awarded as the best player in the sport.
Messi won his last Ballon d’Or award in 2021 as he led Argentina to lift their first World Cup title in 36 years as they defeated the defending champions France in a penalty shootout in the final game of FIFA last year. Lionel Messi is now three Ballon d’Or trophies ahead of His archrival and world’s greatest footballer Cristiano Ronaldo who won his last and fifth trophy in 2017.
After winning the trophy Lionel Messi admitted that he could have never imagined what he has achieved in his career especially playing for the best team in the world after winning the COPA America and the FIFA World Cup in 2022. He also appreciated the Ballon d’Or and expressed his happiness in marking yet another personal achievement.

“I couldn’t imagine having the career that I’ve had. Everything that I’ve achieved. The fortune I’ve had playing for the best team in the world, the best team in history. It’s nice to win these individual trophies. To win the Copa America and then the World Cup, to get it done is amazing,” Messi said after winning the Ballon d’Or award.
“All of them (Ballon d’Or awards) are special for different reasons,” he added. “I’m happy to get that recognition that I’m getting thanks to what we have achieved with the national team,” Messi was quoted by Reuters.
“Happy birthday, Diego. This is for you too. This is a gift to the whole Argentina team for what we achieved. This (World Cup) title we had been aiming for for so many years makes it even more special,” said Lionel Messi while talking to AFP after winning the Ballon d’Or.
