‘MSD and AB de Villiers have been the biggest finishers but Dhoni is the greatest’ – Irfan Pathan

MS Dhoni is currently enjoying the last phase of his cricketing career. He is no longer the captain of Chennai in the Indian T20 League. He is playing as a wicket-keeper batsman in the ongoing edition. He is currently 40-years old and might take retirement from all forms after the completion of this year’s Indian T20 League tournament.

Despite all that, he still has the ability to finish matches. The former Indian skipper, once again, gave a glimpse of finishing skills in the last game against Mumbai. With 16 runs needed in the final four balls, MS Dhoni hit 6,4,2,4 to finish the game on the last ball of the match. With that, Chennai registered its second win this season.

In 7 matches, Chennai now have 2 wins to their name. Recently, Irfan Pathan heaped praise on MS Dhoni, calling him the greatest finisher in the cash-rich league. Speaking to Cricket Live on Star Sports, Pathan said,

“MS Dhoni is the greatest finisher in the history of IPL. Year after year, someone else has been joining this list but no one has been able to displace Dhoni. He is the identity of this league, its true ambassador. MSD and AB de Villiers have been the biggest finishers in the history of IPL, but Dhoni is at the forefront of it. He is the greatest. If we talk about this season, it is pertinent to mention the names of Rahul Tewatia, Dinesh Karthik, Shimron Hetmyer because they have been finishing the games continuously for their teams. But when it comes to the ultimate finisher, obviously only one name will come to the mind and that is Dhoni’s.”

Chennai are currently languishing at the bottom of the points table. They have 2 wins in 7 matches but can make a remarkable comeback in the tournament. Chennai have four titles to their name and no team would be taking them lightly.
