The Netherlands has stunned South Africa in the ODI World Cup 2023. just a couple of days ago, Afghanistan had upset England in Delhi. In Dharamshala, the Netherlands reigned supreme over South Africa. In the process, the Netherlands created history, as they defeated South Africa in the ODI World Cup 2023 for the first time in their history. Netherlands is now the only associate team to have a win over South Africa in both the ODI and T20 World Cups.
The match was interrupted by rain. As a result, the match was reduced to 43 overs per side. Batting first, the Netherlands was in trouble straight away. In the first 15.1 overs, Netherlands was reduced to 50/4 by South Africa. The pace quartet of Lungi Ngidi, Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, and Gerald Coetzee was on fire for most of the match.
From there, the Netherlands saw itself in a much more difficult situation. The Dutch were reduced to 140/7 after 33.5 overs. In the death overs, the game turned totally in the favor of the Netherlands. The sensational knock from Scott Edwards, along with cameos from the tailenders like Roelof Van Der Merwe and Aryan Dutt pulled Netherlands to a good total of 245 runs on the board.

For a brief period, South Africa looked like making a comeback. But the Netherlands quickly applied breaks by taking wickets. The likes of David Miller and Keshav Maharaj tried their best to win the match for South Africa. But it was just meant to be the Netherlands’ day. Not many things went wrong with them. In the end, the Netherlands comprehensively defeated South Africa by 38 runs. It is the first win of the Netherlands in the ODI World Cup 2023.
