‘Pathan jhumne ke baad bhi Paltan haara nahi’ – Fans react as MI survives late scare from Rashid Khan to register 27-run win against GT
After winning the last fixture against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by six wickets, Mumbai Indians (MI) locked horns with Gujarat Titans at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai on Friday, May 12. The five times champions won the match by 27 runs and Suryakumar Yadav was awarded the Player of the Match award for his brilliant century.
If we talk about the encounter, GT skipper, Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first. Batting first, the home side scored a mammoth total of 218 runs for the loss of five wickets. The highest scorer for the side was World No. 1 T20I batter, Suryakumar Yadav who scored an unbeaten knock of 103 runs off 49 balls which included 11 fours and 6 sixes in his innings. Vishnu Vinod also scored crucial 30 runs off 20 balls with two fours and two sixes.
I knew what shots to play: Suryakumar Yadav
The pick of the bowler for GT was Rashid Khan who snapped four wickets in his spell of four overs where he conceded 30 runs in his spell. One wicket was grabbed by Mohit Sharma where he conceded 43 runs in his spell of four overs.
Gujarat while chasing a big total, was able to score only 191 runs with the loss of eight wickets in their 20 overs. The highest scorer for them was Rashid who scored 79 runs off just 32 balls with three fours and 10 sixes in his innings. The pick of the bowler for MI was Akash Mandal who bagged three wickets in his spell of four overs where he conceded 31 runs in his spell.
“Can say that (was one of my best T20 knocks). Whenever I get runs I think the team should win, most importantly we batted first today and said that we would keep the same tempo when you are chasing 200-220. There was a lot of dew on the ground, it was there from the 7-8th over and I knew what shots to play, I was not thinking about hitting straight, I had two shots in mind – one over fine leg and one over third man. There is lots and lots of practice before the game, so when I come into the game I am very clear and just go express myself,” Suryakumar was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation.
