‘Pocket Dynamite for a reason’ – Fans rejoice as David Warner ends his century drought in his Test career
Australia’s opening batter, David Warner has finally ended his Test century drought in the ongoing second Test against South Africa. It lasted for 47 months with him scoring his last Test century in January 2020. At that time, COVID-19 was just another disease. On the other hand, the left-hander scored his ODI hundred early this year. Talking about this game, Warner entered after having a poor run with the bat across formats.
The opening batter was facing criticism and his place was doubtful in the Test team. However, the two-time World Cup winner showed his class in what is the 100th Test match of his career. He had to wait for a bit as his skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bowl first. They bowled out the Proteas for a meager total of 189 on the first day of the game.
After coming to bat to play the remaining over, the team needed their openers, Usman Khawaja and Warner to stay unbeaten. However, the former couldn’t do so and was caught behind. On the other hand, Warner played with positive intent and scored 32 off 51 balls before stumps. On the ongoing second day, Marnus Labushagne got run out early. However, the New South Wales player wasn’t deterred at all.
In the second session of the day, he hit a four toward the fine leg of Kagiso Rabada to get to his 25th Test ton.
David Warner nearing his second double hundred
In the ongoing third session of the day, Warner has accelerated the scoring rate alongside Steve Smith. The former resumed his innings with an individual score of 135. At the time of writing, Warner has scored 174 runs and is looking set to score his second double ton in the red-ball format. His last double ton came in the 2015-16 season. He also has a triple hundred to his name which came against Pakistan in December 2019.

David Warner was right, he wasn't out of form, he was just out of runs.

David Warner becomes the 10th batter to hit a 100 in his 100th Test appearance.
Ricky Ponting is the only batter to do it twice in his 100th appearance and Joe Root is the only batter to convert the score to a double century.

Can’t think of too many cricketers who’ve been faster & more intense between the wickets in their 100th Test than David Warner. Maybe Virat Kohli was on par #AusvSA
