‘Prince is here to rule IPL’ – Fans react as Gujarat Titans name Shubman Gill as new captain for IPL 2024
Gujarat Titans has recently appointed India’s young opening batsman Shubman Gill as their captain as they recently traded their captain Hardik Pandya to the five-time IPL title winner and his former team Mumbai Indians for a disclosed amount of money ahead of the IPL auction 2024. Shubman Gill will carry forward the legacy left behind by Hardik Pandya as he led Gujarat Titans to the finals both times the team participated in the tournament.
Under Hardik Pandya, Gujarat Titans won the IPL title in their first participating season in IPL 2022. Gill recently expressed his gratitude to the Gujarat Titans team management for trusting him and appointing him as the captain.
“I am delighted and proud to assume the captaincy of Gujarat Titans and thank the franchise for trusting me to lead such a fine team. We have had two exceptional seasons and I keenly look forward to leading the team with our exciting brand of cricket”, said Shubman Gill.
After appointing Shubman Gill as the captain, the Gujarat Titans’ director of Cricket Vikram Solaki said, “Shubman Gill has shown growth in stature and standing over the last two years at the game’s highest level. We’ve seen him mature not only as a batter but also as a leader in cricket. His contribution on the field has helped Gujarat Titans emerge as a formidable force, guiding the team through a successful campaign in 2022 and a strong run in 2023. His maturity and skill are evident in his on-field performance and we are extremely excited to embark on a new journey with a young leader like Shubman at the helm.”

I feel it's a good decision because he is young and the kind of talent he has surely will emerge as an Indian captain contender at some point of time. So why not try now and see how it goes. pic.twitter.com/ppy9yQ3Qpy
