‘Probably one of the greatest games’ – Twitter can’t keep calm as India women beat Australia in Super Over
India and Australia women’s teams locked horns in the second T20I of the five-match series in Mumbai. After winning the first game comfortably, the Aussies were leading the series 1-0. On the other hand, the home side needed to level the series to keep it alive. Meanwhile, after winning the toss, the Women In Blue decided to bowl first. The visitors had a poor start as they lost Alyssa Healy early.
She was batting well after scoring 25 off just 15 balls but could score big. She tried to play a cut shot against Deepti Sharma, only to be caught at backward point by Devika Vaidya. The likes of Beth Mooney and Tahlia McGrath stitched an unbeaten partnership of 158 runs in just 99 balls. Notably, the pair stayed unbeaten in the first game and helped the team win the game.
Meanwhile, this partnership helped the team reach 187/1. Mooney (82*) and McGrath (70*) scored half-centuries each. On the other hand, the Indian bowlers proved costly and had a forgetful day.
India tied the game and won it in the Super Over
In reply, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side had a great start as Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana put together 76 runs in just 8.4 overs. The former got out after scoring 34 off 23 balls. The likes of Jemimah Rodrigues (4) and Kaur (21) couldn’t do much with the bat. However, Mandhana was ensuring the team remained in the game.
She scored 79 before getting out in the 17th over. The likes of Richa Ghosh (26*) and Devika Vaidya (11*) took the team close but could only tie the game. However, Mandhana, Ghosh, and Kaur ensured that the team scored 21 runs in the Super Over with Mandhana doing the heavy lifting. The score was too good for the Aussies as they could only get to 16 runs after losing a wicket. With this win, India have leveled the five-match series 1-1.
This is how Twitter reacted
What a wonderful game in front of a packed DY Patil stadium and a top effort by the Indian girls to beat Australia. Smriti Mandhana was spectacular and Devika and Richa Ghosh were brilliant in the end. A cracker of a super over. #IndvsAus pic.twitter.com/FP6xwYHhUs

Anjali Sarvani can be good future prospect for India. She is left arm bowler and has really good line length. #INDvsAUS
