England batter Jason Roy opted out of the Indian T20 League due to bio bubble fatigue. The Gujarat franchise purchased him at a base price of INR 2 crore in the mega auction of 2022. The 31-year had informed the team management about his decision last week.

Now, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has opined that while Roy’s decision is valid, the Gujarat team will face some problems with his exclusion. He also pointed out the Englishman’s participation in the future seasons will also be difficult.

Taking to Twitter Aakash Chopra wrote, “Bio-bubble fatigue is REAL. Nobody should ever trivialise it. One could understand why Roy has pulled out of the IPL. That said…it puts GT in a soup. And IPL remembers who pulled out & when…and that affects future purchases of the same player. It’s not heartless but pragmatic…”

Notably, Jason Roy also pulled out of the 2020 season when he was purchased by Delhi purchased him for INR 1.5 crore. He went unsold in the following season of the tournament but was recalled as a replacement in the Hyderabad squad. He only played a few matches and had a decent season with them.

Gujarat’s opening options for Indian T20 League

Gujarat now has only a few options for the opening spot. Shubman Gill is sure of taking one of the spots. They have Matthew Wade, who is a floater, and Wriddhiman Saha, who has played for Hyderabad team as an opener on some ocassions.

In another tweet, Chopra said that Wade can open the innings, and David Miller, along with Hardik Pandya, can be the finisher. “For them to have a good season Miller must have a killer season,” he wrote.
