According to a report in Sportskeeda, Priyank Panchal is set to join the Indian T20 League debutant Gujarat as a backup player. The 15th season of the ITL is set to start on March 26, with a game between Chennai and Kolkata. Gujarat will kick-start their campaign against another debutant, Lucknow on March 28 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The player hasn’t played in the ITL before.

The last year has been very fruitful for the player from Gujarat. He was included in the Indian team for the home series against England in February last year as a standby player. In November last year, he was made the captain of India A for the tour of South Africa. His performances in the three unofficial Tests earned him a place in the senior team for the Test series against South Africa after Rohit Sharma got injured.

Panchal and his possible inclusion was first reported by Sportskeeda. In a chat with them earlier, Panchal had said that he learned a lot from the likes of Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and KL Rahul during the South Africa tour.

The 31-year-old didn’t play a single game in the three-match Test series. On the other hand, the franchise is also adding some familiar faces to the team. 2014 Purple Cap winner Mohit Sharma will also join the team as the net bowler. 2016 ITL winner with Hyderabad team, Barinder Sran has already joined the team.

The biggest news coming from the team is that their skipper Hardik Pandya has cleared his fitness Test ahead of the cash-rich league. Pandya had skipped the Ranji Trophy to be ready for the upcoming season.
