Reports: Rohit Sharma set to comeback as captain against West Indies, Bhuvneshwar Kumar likely to be dropped
Indian limited-overs series captain Rohit Sharma is likely to make comeback as the captain of the Indian team against West Indies. West Indies will play three ODIs and three T20Is against India in Ahmedabad and Kolkata. The Chetan Sharma-led selection panel will meet this week to pick the team for this series.
The selection panel will discuss the recently concluded series against South Africa where India lost both the Test and ODI series. The panel will also focus on building the team for the 2023 ODI World Cup.
According to News9Live, Rohit Sharma is likely to make a comeback for this series and KL Rahul will return to his position in the middle-order. The report also mentions that Jasprit Bumrah would be rested for this series and Mohammad Shami who didn’t feature in the ODIs against Proteas will also make his return.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar likely to be dropped after dismal South Africa series: Reports
Bhuvneshwar Kumar had a pretty poor show against South Africa in the ODI series. He played the first two matches and couldn’t pick a wicket. He struggled to generate pace and swing in his deliveries and was rested in the third ODI.
A BCCI official confirmed that the board has not received Rohit’s fitness report from NCA after he sustained a hamstring injury before the start of the South Africa tour. The official also pointed out that Rohit had worked really hard on his fitness and might return to the squad.
The report further elaborated that Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja who missed the last series might remain out for the West Indies series as well, while Washington Sundar, who tested positive for Covid-19 before the start of the ODI series against South Africa, might make a comeback. Axar Patel who sustained an injury during the Test series against New Zealand last year has recovered and would feature in the team.
