Rohit Sharma makes big statement on Tilak Varma
Mumbai haven’t been at their best in the ongoing Indian T20 League 2022. While they have only won three out of their 12 games so far, they became the first team to get knocked out of the tournament. Besides, they are currently placed at the bottom of the points table.
However, Tilak Varma has been one of the few positives for them this season. It is safe to say that the youngster has been a diamond in the rough. In just his debut Indian T20 League season, he has already scored 368 runs in 12 games at an average of 40.89. This includes two fifties as well. During Mumbai’s recent game against Chennai, he showed brilliant temperament as he ensured that his side crossed the line.
He kept his calm, and scored a 34-ball 32 when his side were in a spot of bother. This turned out to be the difference between the two teams. Thus, Varma’s skipper Rohit Sharma was mighty impressed with him. As a matter of fact, he went on to say that the 19-year-old would go on to become an all-format player for India pretty soon.
“Tilak Varma has been brilliant, playing for the first year, having such a calm head is never easy. I feel he’s going to be an all-format player for India pretty soon. He’s got the technique and temperament. A lot of things are looking bright for him. And there’s hunger as well. (On Bumrah) He knows what he needs to do and what the team expects him to do which is the most important things. He understands, magnificent spell upfront and we saw what he did in the last game as well,” said Rohit Sharma during the post-match presentation.
It is to be noted that Mumbai went on to beat Chennai by five wickets on Thursday. The Mumbai skipper drew light on the pitch conditions, and praised his bowlers. Further on, he also spoke about how they plan on trying certain players.
“On so many occasions, we’ve had pitches like this. It’s nice to get bowlers into the game as well at times. It’s been batting-friendly pitches all over, it was good to see bounce and swing from both sides which was good to watch. We are keeping one eye (on the future). We want to win games and at the same time we try out certain players. There are options that we still want to try,” he added.
