Senior Pakistani Cricketer Speaks Out About Alleged Babar-Shaheen Dispute: Reports

Controversy struck the Pakistan cricket team in their exit from the 2023 Asia Cup. Reports emerged of an alleged dressing room argument, involving captain Babar Azam after Pakistan’s elimination. Pakistan had faced criticism for their performance in the Super 4 stage, especially after a significant loss to India. In a rain-affected match against Sri Lanka, Pakistan tried to stage a comeback but fell short.

Media reports suggested that Babar Azam expressed dissatisfaction with the performances of some senior players. In response, Shaheen Shah Afridi advised Babar to acknowledge the contributions of those players who had performed well. Mohammad Rizwan reportedly intervened to mediate the situation. However, a senior member of the Pakistan team has denied these rumours. According to Cricket Pakistan, the senior player refuted any altercation and clarified that players had merely shared their thoughts during the meeting.

The incident highlights the pressure and scrutiny faced by the Pakistan cricket team, with tensions running high after a disappointing campaign in the Asia Cup. The team will need to address any internal issues and refocus as they prepare for future challenges, including the upcoming World Cup. In the midst of this controversy, Pakistan’s cricketing community and fans will hope for a resolution that allows the team to regroup and perform at their best in future tournaments.

“The team’s sole focus is on cricket, and we are not concerned about the critics. Losing a match gives our critics an opportunity to voice their opinions, but these are merely negative speculations. “In the team meeting, everyone shared their thoughts, but there is no truth to the rumours of a verbal altercation or the coaching staff needing to intervene. Everyone left the meeting together, and many teammates travelled back to Pakistan on the same flight,” the senior player said, as quoted by the website as reported by  Hindustan Times.

Injury concerns haunt Pakistan team

Pakistan’s preparations for the 2023 World Cup are facing hurdles as injuries plague their key players. Naseem Shah’s participation is uncertain due to a shoulder injury sustained during the Super 4 match, and Haris Rauf is also under scrutiny for injury concerns.

These setbacks are mounting challenges for captain Babar Azam’s team as they approach the prestigious global tournament in India, with their campaign set to begin on October 6 against the Netherlands.
