Shane Warne comes in support of Virat Kohli, says ‘he will have to prove why he is best in the business’
India skipper Virat Kohli has been going through some hard times on and off the field. While his on-field performance has not been that great, there are speculations of his rift with the BCCI. Kohli has also not been able to score a century in the last two years. While he has scored six fifties in the last eight games, he has failed to breach the three-figure score.
Shane Warne, who has always been a great admirer of Virat Kohli, lauded the former Indian captain for his tremendous work with the India team. Kohli took Indian cricket to great heights since taking over from Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Kohli is the most successful India Test captain and led the team to wins in 40 of the 68 games. He also took India to twin series wins in Australia and led them to a 2-1 lead in England in the five-match series.
“I was a little surprised like everyone. Virat has been a wonderful captain for India but it’s also very tough with the expectations of over a billion people. It’s going to be really tough for him… I don’t think anyone could captain India for a long period of time in all forms of the game and continue to bat at a higher level,” said Warner as quoted by CricTracker
Warne further backed Kohli to come back stronger and prove why he is one of the best in the business. “So I think it’s a great opportunity now for Virat to go back and prove to himself and everyone why he is the best batter in the world. And hope he can concentrate on his batting and start making hundreds in all forms of the game again. I hope that’s what happens. He has inspired his teammates. India have played a fantastic brand of cricket and let’s hope that continues.”
