India lost the second ODI against Australia in Vishakhapatnam of the three-match series. Australian pace attack thrashed the Indian batting lineup powered by Mitchell Starc’s five-wicket haul, as the hosts got bowled out for 117 runs while batting first in Visakhapatnam.

India started losing wickets from the very first over after Shubman Gill went for a duck after facing two balls. Indian top order completely surrendered in front of Starc as the left-arm pacer took the big wickets of the skipper Rohit Sharma, Gill, Kl Rahul, and Suryakumar Yadav. Later, he dismissed Mohammed Siraj to end the Indian innings and complete his five-wicket haul. Virat Kohli was the top scorer for India with 35 runs off 31 balls.

Suryakumar was gone after his second consecutive golden duck against the same bowler. The number T20I batter is still looking to find a good form in the 50-over format. He has scored 433 runs in 20 One-Day innings with an average of only 25.47 comprising two half-centuries.

‘He (Suryakumar) needs to spend time with the batting coach’ – Gavaskar

Former Sunil Gavaskar was also left disappointed with the 32-year-old for his technical fault. Gavaskar also suggested Surya spend some time with the batting coach to improve his performance in ODIs.

“He is facing technical difficulties. Also, his stance is an open one. It is good for T20 cricket because any delivery that is overpitched, he can flick it for a six. But here, when the ball is placed right near the foot, with this stance, the bat will definitely come across. It cannot come straight. Hence, if the ball turns inside, he will face difficulty. He needs to spend time with the batting coach on how to come out of this,” said Gavaskar while speaking to Star Sports.

The series against Australia was the best opportunity for Surya to cement his place at number four for India in the absence of Shreyas Iyer but he is yet to open his account in the series after playing two matches.
