Team-wise costliest buys in the IPL 2024 Auction
The Indian Premier League (IPL) Auction 2024 was held in Dubai on December 19 in the presence of coaches and managers. This time the auction broke several records as the amount of auction money spent on 72 players was INR 230 crores. Also, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) became the team to make the costliest buy in the history of the IPL along with SRH following in their footsteps. Both the teams have spent INR 31.35 crore and INR 30.80 crore, respectively, in the mini-auction.
However, the auction didn’t go well for a lot of players like Adil Rashid, Steve Smith, and Josh Hazelwood. They went unsold for the 17th edition of the IPL. Previously, Sam Curran was the most expensive buy of IPL with INR 18.50 crores. Let’s take a look at the team-wise costliest buys of all the ten teams.
10. Rajasthan Royals – Rovman Powell
Rajasthan Royals’ highest bid of the season was West Indies batter, Rovman Powell. They bought him for INR 7.40 crores. In total, RR has spent 14.30 crores in this mini-auction. Powell is a right-handed batter who has 1214 runs in 58 matches at an average of 140+. Last year he played for the Delhi Capitals and scored 257 runs at a strike rate of 146.02. Keeping his scores in mind, RR will be looking forward to having him as a finisher in their team.
9. Delhi Capitals – Kumar Kushagra
Delhi Capitals like always bought nine players and spent INR 19.05 crore from their purse. Their highest buy for the season was the 19-year-old Kumar Kushagra. The teenager is a wicket-keeper batter and has very little experience. He has just played 11 T20 matches and scored 140 runs. DC will have to find a place for him in the team as Rishab Pant will make a comeback in this IPL season.
