‘Tightening the Bolts’: Trent Boult’s all-round show helps Rajasthan to a comfortable win against Lucknow
Lucknow faced Rajasthan in the 63rd match of the Indian T20 League 2022. The venue for the match was the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
Rajasthan decided to bat first after winning the toss. Avesh Khan gave Lucknow a great start by picking up Jos Buttler (2 of 6) in the third over of the innings. This saw Sanju Samson walking out to the middle. Samson along with Yashasvi Jaiswal stabilized the Rajasthan innings with a 64 runs partnership. The partnership was broken by Jason Holder as he dismissed Samson (32 of 24) in the ninth over of the innings. He was followed by Jaiswal (41 of 29) very soon in the 12th over. Rajasthan’s innings wobbled a bit at this stage as they were left at 77 for 3.
However, Padikkal played a counter-attacking brand of cricket and shifted the balance back towards Rajasthan. He scored 39 runs off 18 balls before being dismissed by Ravi Bishnoi in the 14th over of the innings. After this a few short cameos were played by the batters that followed. Noticeable among these was that of Trent Boul, who scored 17 runs in 9 balls. Courtesy of the late order cameos Rajasthan was able to post a total of 178 runs for 6 wickets in their 20 overs. Ravi Bishnoi was the pick of the bowlers for Lucknow with 2 wickets for 31 from his four overs
In pursuit of a formidable total Lucknow came under pressure after losing wickets early in the innings. Trent Boult gave them a jolt at the start as he picked up two wickets of successive deliveries in the third over of the innings. Quinton de Kock (7 of 8) and Ayush Badoni (0 of 1) failed to impact the scorecard. Just when they were trying to build a partnership KL Rahul (10 of 19) was dismissed by Prasidh Krishna in the sixth over of the innings. Lucknow was left reeling at 29 for three at this stage. Deepak Hooda and Krunal Pandya stabilized the innings from this stage and stitched an important partnership for the team. They scored 65 runs in the partnership and got the chase back on track. Krunal Pandya was dismissed in the 14th over by Ravichandran Ashwin. He scored 25 runs off 23 deliveries hitting one four and one six.
But the win still looked possible as Deepak Hooda was looking in good touch and Marcus Stioinis joined him in the middle. Yuzvendra Chahal gave his team the most important breakthrough in the form of Deepak Hooda in the 16th over. He scored 59 runs from 39 balls hitting 5 fours and 2 sixes. His dismissal was a huge moment in the match as the new batters were finding it difficult to get going on the slowish pitch. Even with Stioinis (27 of 17) out in the middle, the remaining of the equation proved a bit too much for the Lucknow batters. They were ultimately restricted to 154 runs in their 20 overs. Rajasthan won the match by 24 runs , this being their 8th win of the tournament. Trent Boult was the pick of the bowlers for Rajasthan as he picked up 2 wickets for 18 runs from his four overs. While Lucknow lost their 5th match in the tournament.

Big win for @rajasthanroyals. Bigger in the backdrop of Buttler falling early. Both Lucknow and Rajasthan should go through #RRvsLSG

Brilliant jugalbandi in the field between Buttler and Parag to complete catch and dismiss dangerous Krunal Pandya. Match heading for very close finish
