The 69th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 saw Delhi face Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. But apparently, Mumbai was playing the contest for Bangalore. As Bangalore’s hopes of making, it to the playoff of Indian T20 League 2022 solely depended on Mumbai winning the match against Delhi.

Mumbai ultimately confirmed Bangalore’s spot in the top four with a dramatic win over Delhi by 5 wickets in the last over of the match. It was Tim David’s explosive knock of 34 runs off 11 deliveries that made the difference for Mumbai. Although the match was of little significance for Mumbai, they will take heart from their performance in the match. David’s antics helped Mumbai walk out of the tournament with their heads held high.

As the match concluded, commentator Pommie Mbwanga asked David about helping Bangalore qualify for his playoffs with his antics, as David was an ex-Bangalore player. He revealed that the Bangalore skipper Faf du Plessis had actually messaged him a picture of himself along with Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell in Mumbai jerseys.

“I got a message from Faf this morning-it was a picture of him, Maxi, and Virat all in a Mumbai kit, maybe I’ll get to post that on Instagram later’”- David said.

While talking about his inning that led Mumbai to the win, David said- “Nice to finish with a win, we got close the other night, good to finish this off. Ishan told me the wicket was getting flatter, it was holding a bit with the slower balls, but I just had to hold my shape and back my game, keep it simple.”

On the other hand, Delhi’s captain Rishabh Pant was visibly disappointed after being eliminated from the tournament being at the doorsteps of making it to the playoffs.

“I think most of the game we were on top of the game. But on a few occasions when we were on top of the game, we let it slip away from our grasp. That’s one of the things we have been doing throughout the tournament. I think we were not good enough to win this match I guess,”- Pant said in the post-match conversation.

Speaking of the playoffs, Gujarat and Rajasthan will play in Qualifier 1 on May 24. On the other hand, Lucknow will be taking on Bangalore in the Eliminator on May 25.
