Toh hum kya kare’ – Fans react as Shubman Gill becomes leading run-scorer in international cricket in 2023
Star India batter, Shubman Gill is considered one of the greats of the modern era. In 2023, he has scored a total of 1198 runs at an average of 46.07 so far and is currently the leading run-scorer in International cricket. This year he has scored a double-century in ODIs, a ton in the T20Is, and a brilliant Indian Premier League 2023 where he bagged an orange cap for himself.
The 23-year-old player, who was in a class of his own, earned the IPL orange hat after amassing 890 runs in 17 games and smashing three hundred. In addition, Gill broke Jos Buttler’s record for the second-most runs scored in a single IPL season, trailing only Virat Kohli (973 runs in 2016). One of the main reasons his side did so well in the IPL 2023 was the eye-catching opening, but Hardik Pandya and company lose to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the final game in Ahmedabad.
Shubman Gill having a poor West Indies series
The fearless opener will, however, play a crucial role for India in both the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023 and the ODI World Cup 2023 that will be held in India later this year. The youngster from Punjab has already demonstrated a lot of potential in his short international career so far, and the former cricketers have rated him highly.
Team India is currently locking horns with West Indies in the five-match T20I series. If we talk about the series Men in Blue is trailing the series 1-2 with the last two matches set to be played on Saturday (August 12) and Sunday (August 13) respectively at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, in Florida. Where on the one side the visitors will try to equalize on the other hand the Carribeans will try to seal the series.
Gill did not have a good West Indies series till now. In the two-match Test series, he was able to score only 10 runs off 12 balls, 22 runs off 22 balls, and nine runs off eight balls, whereas, on the other hand, he was able to score only 7 and 34 in the first two ODIs. However, in the third and final of match of the series he played a match-winning performance, where he scored 85 runs from 92 balls with 11 fours in his innings.
