Punjab took on the defending champions, Chennai in the 11th match of the Indian T20 League 2022. The match was completely dominated by Punjab, especially during the second innings. They outplayed Chennai in all aspects of the game and won their second match of the tournament.

Chennai won their first toss of the season and decided to field first. Punjab was immediately rocked at the beginning as they lost 2 wickets within the first 2 overs. The score was 14 for 2 when Liam Livingstone walked out to bat and joined Shikhar Dhawan in the middle. Livingstone then made a mockery of the Chennai bowling as he thrashed them to all parts of the park. Dhawan and Livingstone put together a partnership of 95 runs before Dhawan was dismissed on the last ball of the 10th over.  Livingstone did not last too long and was dismissed at a personal score of 60 runs off 32 deliveries. After Livingstone walked off the Punjab innings lost their momentum. The inexperience in the middle order was evident as they were not able to keep up the run rate set by the top order. Chennai bowlers slowly crawled back into the match. Punjab was restricted to 180 runs in their 20 overs. The total appeared 20-30 runs short of what they could have achieved, given the fact that they were 109 for 3 at the halfway stage.

Chennai made a mess of a start to their chase. The top order just failed to make any impact. Half the side was back in the hut by the 8th over of the innings. The young Indian pacer Vaibhav Arora impressed a lot with the new ball. He was given consecutive four over by Mayank Agarwal in the first 8 overs. His figures read 4 overs for 21 runs with 2 wickets. Chennai was 36 for 5 when MS Dhoni and Shivam Dube joined hands at the crease. The fans were hoping that the duo rescues them from the situation and pull off  a heist to register their first win of the season. Dube played an excellent counter attacking innings as MSD struggled to middle the ball at opposite end . Dube was finally dismissed after he scored 57 runs off just 30 deliveries by Liam Livingstone. Bravo followed Dube of the very next ball leaving Chennai at 98 for 7 down in 15 overs. Chennai required 83 runs off the final five overs. Fans were waiting for the ‘helicopter’ to take off. But it never did, Dhoni went back after scoring 23 runs off 28 deliveries. An innings that probably put Chennai out of the contest.  Chennai was ultimately bowled out for 126 runs in the 18th over. Punjab won the match by a big margin of 54 runs.
