Two star Indian players ruled out of the South Africa series
Stand-in skipper KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav have been ruled out of the five-match T20I series against South Africa. Rahul sustained a groin injury while Yadav was hit on the right hand while practicing his batting. In the right-hander’s absence, wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant will lead the side. Pant was appointed the vice-captain of the ahead when the squad was announced.
On the other hand, all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been named Pant’s deputy for the series. Pandya recently led the Gujarat franchise to their maiden title in the Indian T20 League 2022. This is the first time the duo has been given leadership roles in the national team. Pant has led the Delhi franchise in the cash-rich league in seasons 2021 and 2022.

After his appointment, the former India U19 player said that it is a great feeling to lead the national side in front of his hometown. He added that having led a team in the biggest T20 League has helped him a lot. He further added that he loves improving and learns from his mistakes.
On the other hand, Rahul took to Twitter and wrote ‘Hard to accept but I begin another challenge today. Gutted not to be leading the side for the first time at home, but the boys have all my support from the sidelines. Heartfelt thanks to all for your support. Wishing Rishabh and the boys all the luck for the series. See you soon”
