Wasim Akram makes sensational revelation on Babar Azam during PSL 2022
Wasim Akram and Babar Azam have been part of the Karachi Kings for the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The latter joined the team in 2017 while Akram joined them a year later. The duo lived the victorious 2020 season in which they beat their arch-rivals, Lahore Qalandars. Also, they went through the Blue Brigade’s worst patch when they lost eight out of 10 games in PSL 2022.
Meanwhile, at a time when a lot of former cricketers are criticizing Babar Azam and Co, the 1992 World Cup winner has made some sensational revelations. The latter revealed that during the seventh season of the Pakistani cash-rich league, he asked Azam to demote himself in the batting order. Akram added that the current Pakistan skipper denied the suggestion.
“I have been through this by the way with Babar, at Karachi Kings. In the team we had a couple of bad phases and I requested him once or twice nicely, that please come down at number 3, we’ll try something different,” Wasim Akram said on A Sports show – The Pavillion.
“Let (Martin) Guptill bat at the top, seeing he is an opener. And he (Babar) said I would not go down, you ask Sharjeel to bat at 3, and he (Sharjeel) is a natural opener too. And these little things that the captain does, the team senses too,” he added.
Babar Azam needs to learn the need of sacrificing his batting position: Wasim Akram
The former left-arm pacer further said that it is important for Babar Azam to be more selfless from the team’s perspective.
“All of these things begin at the top. And at the top is your captain. If your captain plays for himself and is insecure. If your captain scores runs and lets other batters play at his position, you get to know that your captain is ready to sacrifice himself for you, this Babar has to learn,” Wasim said.
Babar scored most runs for the Kings during the PSL 2022 but the former winners ended up losing on most occasions.
