Wasim Akram Shares His Opinion Regarding the Virat Kohli Vs Babar Azam Comparison
On 22 August 2022, India completed the three-match ODI series in Zimbabwe. They won it at a margin of 3-0. On the other hand, Pakistan also won their ODI series against the Netherlands at a margin of 3-0. Now, both teams will be in action again in the Asia Cup.
Both will lock horns against each other on 28 August 2022 in the USA. Now, ahead of this mega event, former Pakistan legend Wasim Akram also opened up on the comparison of Babar Azam with Virat Kohli. Babar Azam is currently the ranked one batter in both the ODI and T20I formats. On the other side, Kohli has failed to score any big score for his country since 2019.
“Babar is on the right track where Kohli is. But comparing him to Kohli at this stage is too early,” – Wasim Akram
On 23 August 2022, the Star Sports network organized a presser where Wasim Akram was present. There, he said that the comparison between Babar and Kohli is natural. He said: “The comparison between Babar and Kohli is natural. Earlier, there was Inzamam UL Haq vs Rahul Dravid or Sachin Tendulkar. There was Javed Miandad and Sunny Gasvaskar too. Gundappa Vishwanath vs Zaheer Abbas,”
Akram also added that the Pakistan skipper is on the right track. Still, it is too early to compare him with the former India captain. “Babar has been consistent in all three formats because he has got all the correct techniques. He enjoys his batting and is hungry for runs. But when you talk about Babar and Kohli’s comparison, it is too early for me, Babar is on the right track where Kohli is. But comparing him to Kohli at this stage is too early,” Wasim Akram concluded.
Speaking of these players, Virat Kohli took a rest from both the tour of the West Indies and Zimbabwe. He last played for India in England across all three formats. Meanwhile, Babar played in all three ODIs in the Netherlands.
