Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has been in great form with the bat this month. In the three-match Test series against England early this month, he scored 358 runs at an average of 66. Meanwhile, in the ongoing game against New Zealand, the right-hander scored his another Test ton. Notably, he was dropped in the 14th over of the innings by Daryl Mitchell in slips.

Since then, he has been punishing the Kiwi bowlers and making them regret the drop catch. At one stage, he was striking at more than 60 runs per 100 balls. Meanwhile, he got to his hundred with a six over deep midwicket. On the first ball of the 53rd over bowled by Michael Bracewell, Babar hit a slog sweep long into the stands.

Meanwhile, talking about the game, the home side won the toss and elected to bat first. They had a poor start as they lost four wickets for 110 runs. However, former and current skippers, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Azam stitched a partnership of 196 runs for the fifth wicket. The former played his comeback in the longest format of the game after 47 months.

His comeback has been more than fruitful as he scored 87 runs. On the other hand, the current Pakistan skipper is batting on 159 runs and looking set to get his double ton on the upcoming second day of the game. At the time of writing, Ahmed got out after scoring 87 runs as he was caught at slips by none other than Mitchell. The latter was the one who dropped Azam’s catch early in the day.

At this point, Pakistan is in the driving seat in the game for the first time in Test cricket at home this year. If the team manages to win this game, it will be their first win at home and second overall this year. In July this year, the team won a Test match in Sri Lanka.
