David Warner to lead Delhi in Rishabh Pant’s absence
Meanwhile, the two-time World Cup winner will lead the Delhi franchise in the upcoming season. He is replacing Rishabh Pant, who has been ruled out due to a near-fatal car accident in December last year. The latter’s return to the game is not certain as of now. On the other hand, Warner previously led the Hyderabad team from 2015 to the mid-2021 season. During this phase, he led the team to a title win in 2016 and playoffs in 2017, 2019, and 2021.
The team had a poor start to the 2022 season. As a result, he was removed from captaincy and dropped from the team as well. Last year, he rejoined Delhi for whom he played from 2009 to 2013. Last year, Warner had a decent season with the bat and the team finished fifth in the points. Meanwhile, after becoming the skipper of the team for this year, the left-hander said that the team will miss Pant.
“Rishabh has been a terrific leader for Delhi Capitals, and we’re all going to miss having him around. I would like to thank the management for the faith and trust they’ve always shown in me. This franchise has always been home for me, and I couldn’t be more excited to lead such a supremely talented bunch of players. I can’t wait to meet them all, and get crackin,” A release by Delhi quoted Warner as saying.
