England’s leg-spin prodigy is set to make his international debut for his country against his country of birth, Pakistan. Early this year, he played in the U19 World Cup in which his team lost to India in the final. The leggie was the sixth-highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 12 scalps. Meanwhile, an old video of him meeting the late Shane Warne is going viral on social media.

The video is said to be from a time when Rehan was 13 years old. In the video that is going viral, Warne had predicted that the Nottingham-born would play First Class Cricket at the age of 15. Notably, the former U19 player made his FC debut only this year. Further in the video, the all-time second-highest wicket-taker in Tests was heard saying he will commentate on Rehan soon.

Unfortunately, that won’t happen as Warne passed away in March this year at the age of 52

“That is awesome man! Really, really good, I am going to keep a close eye on you. I think we will be commentating on you very soon. I think you are going to be playing first class cricket by the age of 15,” Warne was heard telling the young spinner in the video.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, England’s Test coach Brendon McCullum has said that Rehan is far from being a developed bowler. However, he also maintained that Rehan’s approach to the game is good.

“We know he’s not the finished article and has raw potential. But Ben [Stokes], myself, and the rest of the coaches like how he approaches his game. The experience of being part of the squad in Pakistan will be hugely beneficial for him, and he will add to the make-up of our squad,” England’s red-ball head coach Brendon McCullum said on Ahmed’s selection.

If Rehan makes his Test debut, he will be the youngest Englishman after Brian Close to play Test cricket.
