MS Dhoni has only been playing in the Indian T20 League since his official announcement from international cricket in 2020. His last international game was the 2019 ODI World Cup semi-final against New Zealand. Since then, he kept mum about his playing future. A more than a year after playing his last, he announced his retirement from international cricket. The Ranchi player has been leading his beloved Chennai team.

However, he did relinquish captaincy ahead of the 2022 season. After eight games and only a few wins, the team management decided to go back to Dhoni for the captaincy job. However, he could prevent his team from being knocked out of the playoffs. The right-hander has maintained that he wants to play in front of the Chennai crowd for one last time before hanging his boots. Meanwhile, a video of him training in the nets is going viral.

In the video, after the training, he was seen interacting with the net bowlers.

Meanwhile, Dhoni’s wish of playing in front of Chennai crowd might be fulfilled next year. A while back, it was reported that the Indian Cricket Board is looking to bring back the old ‘Home and Away’ format for the cash-rich league. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the board hasn’t been able to stage the tournament across India. In the first year of the pandemic, the tournament was played entirely in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Last year, the board tried to stage the tournament in India during the second wave of the pandemic. However, player getting infected one-by-one meant that the tournament had to be suspended for a while. In September and October last year, the tournament was continued from where it stopped in India. This year, the tournament was played across four venues of Maharashtra, one venue each in Kolkata and Ahmedabad. Notably, there were a few COVID-19 cases this year. However, it didn’t had any impact on the tournament.
