In match number 4 of the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2023, Ravichandran Ashwin-led Dindigul Dragons beat Ba11sy Trichy by 6 wickets. In the low-scoring game, Trichy batted first and scored a below-par total of 120 runs. Dindigul bowlers, under the leadership of Ashwin, bowled Trichy in just 19.1 overs.

However, Ashwin once again made headlines with his on-field antics. In the first innings of the game, Ashwin reviewed a review on the same ball. The shocking incident occurred on the last ball of the 13th over of Trichy’s batting. Ashwin was noticeably unhappy after Ba11sy Trichy’s R Rajkumar succeeded to overrule umpire K Srinivasan’s on-field judgement during the 13th over. Umpire Srinivasan ruled the Trichy batter caught behind.

However, the third umpire overturned Srinivasan’s on-field ruling because replays showed that the bat had touched the ground before passing the ball. The third umpire was confident that there was a visible spike on UltraEdge before the ball struck the willow. As a result, the Ba11sy Trichy star was not conferred. Ashwin decided to appeal the DRS decision on the same delivery shortly after Rajkumar altered his decision. The on-field umpires went through the same procedure before Rajkumar was pronounced not out for the second time by the TV umpire.

Trichy failed to bat against the quality bowlers of Dindigul

Talking about the game, Trichy opted to bat first and the decision didn’t go well with them. They lost quick wickets as just three out of 11 batters were able to touch a two-digit score. Openers Ganga Shridhar and Rajkumar scored 48 off 41 and 39 off 21, respectively. Apart from them, M Sahjahan scored 13 runs off 18 balls. For Dindigul, spinner Varun Chakravarthy clinched three wickets, while Suboth Bhati, Ravichandran Ashwin and Saravana Kumar clinched two each.

Chasing a total of 121 runs, Dindigul didn’t get a good start. They lost opener Vimal Khumar for a two-ball duck in the very first over. After his departure, Shivam Singh, along with Baba Indrajit, added 58 runs for the second wicket. Shivam, in his innings, scored 46 runs off 30 balls with the help of six boundaries and three sixes. In the end, Adithya Ganeshan and Suboth Bhati clinched the game for Dindigul.
